About the Role

Our client is a state government owned company that plays an important role in building awareness and educating the community to protect the legacy and financial affairs of Victorians. They are currently seeking a Payroll Officer to come in and work with their team in Footscray (preferred), Dandenong or Bendigo.

Candidates for this role must have previous experience in a computerised payroll system Ascender, previous experience and ability to manage end-to end payroll processing, and thorough knowledge of payroll related rules, regulations and legislation.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Accurate and Timely Payroll Management: Ensure all employee, executive, and director remuneration is processed accurately and on time, adhering to statutory requirements, company policy, and Enterprise Agreements, including managing salary increases and allowances.
  • Data and System Administration: Maintain all employee information (salary, position, new hires, variations, terminations) and manage payroll systems including Single Touch Payroll, superannuation clearing house, Employee Self Service, templates, and files.
  • Compliance and Interpretation: Interpret the Enterprise Agreement and relevant legislation (tax, payroll tax, super guarantee, entitlements) to ensure full compliance.
  • Issue Resolution and Decision Making: Investigate and resolve complex payroll-related issues (pays, leave, super, tax) and make independent decisions regarding payroll queries and running the fortnightly pay run.
  • Financial Reporting and Reconciliation: Complete required payroll journals and manage annual reconciliations for payroll tax and WorkCover, including processing quarterly liability journals.
  • Policy, Procedure, and Audit Support: Maintain an up-to-date Payroll procedure guide, contribute to payroll projects, assist with audit functions, and implement approved audit recommendations.
  • Continuous Improvement: Proactively recommend and implement improvements and efficiencies within the payroll processing function.

About You

You will be an experienced Payroll Officer with proven experience and reliability in previous roles.

The successful candidate will possess:

  • Previous experience in a computerised payroll system Ascender
  • Thorough knowledge of payroll related rules, regulations and legislation
  • Previous experience and ability to manage end-to end payroll processing
  • Previous experience and ability to interpret and understand Awards, Agreements and Policies
  • Highly developed interpersonal and professional communication skills (written and spoken)
  • Intermediate computer literacy, including competent use of Microsoft Office
  • High degree of accuracy
  • Ability to work autonomously, in a team and have high levels of time management
